Al di sopra della cinta volsco-romana furono edificate,all’inizio del V sec. d.C.,le mura, munite di torri quadrate in gran parte conservatesi. Pure pressoché integro risulta un lungo tratto del camminamento di ronda, trasformato in via pubblica nel 1786, quando il papa Pio VI volle adibire le fortificazioni ad abitazioni.

The rampart walk

The new walls were built above the Vosco-Roman circuit at the beginning of the 5th century A.D. and were provided whit square towers, most of them are in good condition. A long stretch of the watch walk is also almost intact; this part became an open road in 1786 when Pope Pius VI converted the fortifications into houses.
