L’interno della Cattedrale è diviso in tre navate per mezzo di colonne romane di riuso. Alla fase duecentesca appartengono il magnifico pavimento in opera cosmatesca, il pulpito, la colonna tortile per il cero pasquale e forse, i due cibori degli altari laterali. All’inizio del “700” venne avviata una ristrutturazione che comportò, insieme all’erezione del baldacchino sull’altare maggiore e al rifacimento in stucco dei capitelli delle colonne, anche l’edificazione della copertura a volta, la creazione del corpo quadrangolare e la trasformazione delle cappelle laterali.

The Cathedral - inside

The Roman columns, already used before, divide the interior of the Cathedral intro a nave and two aisles. The wonderful floor in Cosmati work, the pulpit, the spiral column used for the Easter wax candle and perhaps, the two ciboria of the side altars all belong to the 13th cent. The renovation of this part of the Cathedral started in the first years of the 18th cent.; different works were carried on: a canopy was erected over the high altar, the capitals of the columns were remade with stucco, a vaulted roof and a quadrangular choir were built white the side chapels were transformed.
