L’edificio è il risultato dell’accorpamento di più strutture pertinenti ad epoche diverse. L’uso del basalto in alcuni muri e la presenza di aperture con disposizione irregolare farebbero ritenere che l’edificio originario sia databile alla fine del XII sec. Di notevole pregio risulta il prospetto sul Corso A. Garbali, ristrutturato in età moderna e costituito da un parametro in blocchetti calcarei; sopra la finestra del primo piano è infatti inserita una lastra ad arco di ciborio, decorata da una doppia treccia viminea risalente al IX sec., forse pertinente alla fase carolingia della Cattedrale.   

Palazzo Matthias

Several structure belonging to different periods led to the formation of this building. The date of the original construction may go back to the end of the 12th cent. According to the basalt used in same walls and its openings placed in an irregular disposition. Its front, overlooking Corso A. Garibaldi, is of great value; it has been renovated in the modern age and is made up of a decoration with limestone small blocks; above the window on the first floor, is inserted a ciborium arch slab, adorned with a double wicker braid, dating back to the 9th cent. and perhaps belonging to the Carolingian phase of the Cathedral.
