Era la zona militare del santuario, collegata alla città da una cinta muraria dotata di nove torri circolari, con funzione di controllo dell’Appia e di difesa del monte e dell’abitato. Il “campo” era formato da un triportico aperto a Sud, il cui braccio nord comprendeva, oltre all’accesso principale, un avancorpo dotato di camminamento superiore e di 13 cisterne sottostanti in comunicazione tra loro.   

“Entrenched Camp” and cisterna

It was the military area of the sanctuary, linked to the town by circuits walls endowed with nine circular towers and it served to keep the Via Appia under control, to defend the Acropolis and the town. The “camp” had a three sided portico open to the south whose north wing included, besides the main entrance, an avant-corps with an upper walk and 13 cisterns situated below and communicating each other.
